Canvas for students
Get started as a Canvas student
Once you can log in, focus on the Dashboard, Modules, Assignments, Grades, Calendar, and Inbox—the five places that drive most student activity.
Your first week checklist
- Confirm every course card appears on the Dashboard.
- Open each course → Modules and scan the first unit.
- Check Assignments and Quizzes for due dates this week.
- Set Notification Preferences under Account → Notifications.
- Install the Canvas Student app and enable calendar reminders.
Submit an assignment
Open the course → Assignments → choose the item → Submit Assignment. Upload a file, type a text entry, or use the method your teacher enabled. Always wait for the confirmation stamp.
Find grades & feedback
Use Grades in the course menu. Open individual items for comments, rubric scores, and annotated feedback from SpeedGrader.
