Canvas Lite for individual educators
Canvas Lite (historically Free-for-Teacher) gives individual educators a free Canvas workspace without a full institutional license—useful for tutoring, homeschooling, pilots, and personal course design.
What you can do
- Organize modules, pages, and embedded media.
- Collect work and grade with SpeedGrader and rubrics.
- Message learners through Announcements, Discussions, and Inbox.
- Connect common tools such as Google Drive, Zoom, or Microsoft Teams when enabled.
Where to sign up
Create or access free teacher accounts at https://canvas.instructure.com. Students invited to a Lite course still log in with the credentials created for that course space.
Reminder: School-issued Canvas sites remain separate from Canvas Lite. Always use the URL your school provides for enrolled classes.
