Canvas notifications control how you hear about announcements, due dates, conversation messages, and grade changes. Defaults are often too noisy—or too quiet.
Open notification preferences
- Click Account in Global Navigation.
- Select Notifications.
- Set each category to Notify immediately, Daily summary, Weekly summary, or Off.
Recommended starter setup
- Announcements: Notify immediately
- Submission comments / grades: Notify immediately or daily
- Conversation messages: Notify immediately
- Due date reminders: Keep on if your courses change deadlines often
- Discussion posts: Daily summary unless you need real-time debate alerts
